DAILY 5 - Word Work (Drawer Labels)

Well, I have been working on getting my Word Work organized. Seamless. That's the goal. It's nice to have goals. Seamless almost never happens, but...... with having your Word Work drawers organized for the year, it's about as seamless as it gets... in 1st grade.... with kids that are 5 and 6! Anyway, I now have everything in place and a place for everything... WORD WORK anyway... I have my drawers all labeled. Check out the different options I have. I'm going with the BURLAP, CHALKBOARD, AND LIME GREEN labels theme this year. Matches most of my classroom. Anyway, the drawers are labeled and ready for the little kiddos to EXPLORE!! I also made the BURLAP, CHALKBOARD, and WHITE labels.

These labels are attached to the 3 drawer Sterilite drawers. I printed them on the full page Avery 5265 shipping labels and cut them black lines, and WOLLA!!! The perfect set-up for the kids to be independently choosing their Word Work options.

I also have white labels with white writing and white labels with black writing.

Daily 5 - WORK WORK

After reading (and re-reading) the wonderfully inspirational book: The Daily 5 Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades  written by Gail Boushey & Joan Moser “The 2 Sisters” I worked hard to put together a fun and engaging way for kids to interact with their weekly words.

My students have piloted this and absolutely LOVE working with words. This packet truly helps foster independence with words in the classroom. Many tasks focus on both a literary and a math standard. Four of the literacy and math combination tasks are: Money Words, Place Value Words, Scrabble Words and Graph a Word.

We would work whole group one different WORD WORK activity at a time until the kids understood the concept. I would scaffold the support with each task, and next they worked with partners. Once they understood the activity, they could work independently. WOW!! Watching them quickly learn each of these skills was amazing.

Best of all, you can be conferring with students in writing or reading when they are independently working with their words.  If you purchase this package, please email me and I will send you an editable Bingo card to customize to your liking. My email is: DebBolken@park6.org. You can find this word work packet HERE

Use all of these different WORD WORK options with your weekly words. The following is a list of the different options you will get:
Rainbow Words
Hidden Words
Scrabble Words
Secret Code Words
ABC Order Words
Money Words
Place Value Words
Graph the Words
Stamped Words
Beaded Words
Stair Step Words
Swirl Words

Bingo Cards

DAILY 5 - POSTERS

A WONDERFUL book for helping you create a very successful framework for literacy in your classroom.

After reading (and re-reading) the wonderfully inspirational book: The Daily 5 – Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades  written by Gail Boushey & Joan Moser “The 2 Sisters” I put together some posters for my classroom. I take credit for NOTHING what-so-ever in regards to the teaching of The Daily 5. I simply used The 2 Sister’s inspiring words to help create posters to match the décor of my classroom. Use them if you can. I also have several other chalkboard theme items that match this décor. Check out the rest of my TPT store for more options for your classroom.
